Mutemath / The Cairos – The Hifi, Sydney, 16/5/12

Mutemath have slowly become one the bands that everyone must hear. The alternative rockers from New Orleans have finally made the trip to Australia through Groovin The Moo and massive exposure from Triple J.

Supporting Mutemath was The Cairos who much like Mutemath; have risen to the eyes and ears of the general public. The Cairos played a fun set which had shown off the many reasons why they will rise up even higher in the next few years. Their set consisted mainly tracks off their latest release Colours Like Features. They had warmed up the crowd very nicely and everyone was keen for Mutemath.

Mutemath know how to make an entrance, coming through the front door and moving through the crowd under a veil of fairy lights. It was a parade much like one that would occur in New Orleans; lights, sounds and fun. Finally hitting the stage the band opened with Blood Pressure, their live show is just electric from the outset. Syncing the lights to the drum beats and the energy from drummer Darren King was just amazing. The grandest component of the band was vocalist/keyboardist/organist Paul Meany was everywhere he could be in the venue. Jumping into the crowd yet still singing perfectly. It was a party and everyone was part of it. Being on the balcony did not stop some people dancing. A component which makes parties great is explosions; and having confetti cannons made the party and craziness even more intense. Highlight tracks were Blood Pressure, Odd Soul, Cavalries and Heads Up.
